It is true: children are back to school and the weather is getting a little cooler. You know what this means, right? Fu and cold season approaches us.
Wait! WHAT? Cold and flu "season?" Seriously?
According to the CDC, flu "season" occurs from Nov - March. And not just theflu, but the common cold, stomach "bugs," sore throats, and ear infections increase at this time of year.
Is taking your vitamin C, getting enough sleep, and hand washing really going to prevent these from occurring?
The one word answer is NO and this is why.
Each of these "sicknesses" (cold, flu, stomach "bugs," sore throats and ear infections) are the healing or recovery phases from a conflict shock.
This means that something was unexpected and distressing which causes a Biological Program to begin with the sole purpose of ensuring our survival.
This conflict shock occurs regardless if you're taking vitamin C, getting enough sleep and handwashing.
So why is there an increase in these symptoms at this time of year? I have my hypotheses (I'm sure there are more) which are:
Any one of these can impact the psyche which then turns on a Biological Program that has physical symptoms in the healing phases including:If you'd like to know what the conflict shocks are for each of these, click the links above to read about each one.
Two tips on how to stay healthy this fall & winter
Some common conflict areas include:
These are suggestions to get you thinking of your potential triggers and also practical solutions.
While taking your vitamin C, getting enough sleep, and washing your hands are fine activities to do, they do not prevent an unexpected Conflict Shock with its subsequent Healing/Recovery Phase (which is what we call, 'being sick).
The number one thing to do to stay healthy is to recognize when you're upset and find a solution to it as soon as you can!

How about that summer sunburn? Today's One Minute for Wellness tip discusses the impact of sunburns. Should you be worried? Will you get skin cancer? Inquiring minds want to know....
Summer is winding down yet I still see parents slathering a high SPF sunscreen on their kids and themselves so they won't get a sunburn since, let's face it, no one likes to get sunburned. It hurts when your skin is red, hot and blistering. I get it. Really, I do.
Experts say that prolonged UV exposure increases damage by free radicals that reduce your skin's elastin so it appears leathery and has more wrinkles. Yep, I get this, too. I've known several older sun worshippers whose skin is definitely tanned and leathery.
Experts also say that sunburns or prolonged UV exposure cause skin cancer.
Hmmm....No. Not true and this is why:
Almost 40 years ago, Dr. Hamer discovered that "diseases" were meaningful, biologically based "programs" that your brain controls that are designed to support your survival. They start with an unexpected shock to your psyche which is that part of your brain, nervous system & senses that interprets the world around you.
The conflict shock that starts the cascade of events that allopathic medicine calls, "skin cancer," is actually one of four shocks:
These cells would be called "melanoma" by the allopathy.
Once we've resolved the conflicts, these cells are broken down by microbes since they are no longer needed. All in all, it's an efficient system especially when we stay out of fear and when we resolve our conflicts quickly.
Let's tie this in with the sun and this is where it gets interesting.
A sunburn - one or many - can be interpreted by your psyche to be an attack against the skin.
Ahhh, there it is: You get a sunburn, you think, "Ouch!" and maybe you add in a touch of fear, "Oh, no, I may get skin cancer" and instantly your psyche begins to protect you by adding extra cells to your skin.
Here's what this means:
The sun doesn't cause these extra cells to develop; it doesn't cause cancer.
It's our innermost and unconscious interpretation of the sunburn that grows the extra cells to protect us.
And for those with leathery skin? We know the sun free radical damage weakens the skin so when we experience any of the four conflicts listed above, the healing phase will be more complicated and could even result in death.
Once fear enters the equation the picture changes and usually spirals downhill. That's the topic for another newsletter....
For now, does sunscreen prevent skin cancer? The CDC says new cases of "skin cancer" in the US has increased from 40,777 in 1999 to 80,442 in 2015. https://gis.cdc.gov/Cancer/USCS/DataViz.html
So, no, sunscreens don't directly prevent skin cancer because they can't prevent your psyche from experiencing attacks against the skin. They CAN prevent sunburns, though. :)
Personally, I don't use chemical sunscreen. Instead, I cover up and I make sure I acclimate slowly every spring. If I haven't had time to acclimate slowly, I'll use a physical sunscreen if I can't cover up. The last time I did that was about 10 years ago.....
I am super excited to bring you this One Minute For Wellness Tip about how I recently relieved pain.
I was asked to present German New Medicine at a conference for Bionetic practitioners. These are holistically minded practitioners who use a non-cognitive biofeedback unit called a SpectraVision to gather information about your body and your issues.
Practitioners interpret the scans from many perspectives including the 5 Element Theory of Chinese Medicine and German New Medicine which is a great combo.
They had a new addition to the SV unit called the SLT - Sound Light Therapy. It looked like a blow dryer but instead of blowing heat, it emitted light and sound, which I could not hear (see pics below).
I was immediately drawn to it and had an opportunity to use it on some of my sore spots.
I have old scar tissue from various sports injuries including a calcium encrusted metatarsal on my foot from karate trauma many years ago.
More recently, my foot has received further abuse from taking ballet. (Yes, from karate to ballet.....) Being on pointe is rather brutal for.....older.... feet.
Old scar tissue and the aggravation of being on pointe has made walking without pain rather difficult. Rather than stop ballet lessons - since they are WAY too fun! - I've been doing physical therapy for the past year which has helped. The SLT took it even further.
Within an hour of finishing the SLT therapy, I could walk 100% pain-free. I had more joint mobility with my big toe - with about a 75% reduction in pain. My entire foot articulates differently when I walk now since I don't have any pain.
I had a ballet and pointe class 4 days later; I was apprehensive about even going on pointe since I didn't want to ruin my pain-free walking status.
Good news: even 2 days after pointe class, I am still walking pain-free. :)
According to German New Medicine, pain indicates either a Healing Phase or, if the pain is chronic or reocurring, it's a Hanging Healing.
If left unchecked, physical changes occur which can be permanent (think of fingers bent from arthritis, a self-devaluation of the hands). This is what happened with the calcification of my metatarsal.
Resolving the issue is paramount and supporting the bones & tissues is also beneficial. Therapies such as sound and light therapy and acupuncture relieve pain & inflammation which make you more comfortable during the Healing Phase.
I can attest that Sound and Light Therapy was effective for me. For more information on the unit I used, see below.
(And just in case you are curious: ballet is MUCH more difficult than karate!)
One Minute for Wellness Tip:
We just missed it! The American Academy of Sleep Medicine declared that Monday, March 12, 2018, was Insomnia Awareness Day.
Every night, millions of people around the world have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.
Are you one of them?
Have you tried everything you can think of without good results??
Then consider your insomnia from a GNM perspective.
When you have difficulty falling asleep or if you wake up in the middle of the night, it generally means you were Conflict Active during the day OR you're still Conflict Active.
Being Conflict Active means that something triggered your psyche (your brain, nervous system and senses) during the day and it instantly changed your nervous system.
Often, this change is below our level of awareness yet it can disrupt sleep, even many hours later.
To determine what triggered you, consider learning more about GNM so you can figure it out and resolve it. You'll sleep sounder!
If you have difficulty falling asleep:
Think back to your day. Did something upset you? Have you been thinking about it since it occurred?
If so, then your psyche is keeping you awake so you'll have more time to resolve it.
The lesson here: be aware of when you're Conflict Active and how that can disrupt your sleep! Then learn how to downgrade the Conflict Activity.
Here's a great little chart that gives you steps you can take to downgrade being Conflict Active so you can sleep sounder. Number 10 is my favorite!
Ever been in a salt store? I can't say I've been in any salt stores in the U.S., however, I took a day trip to Hallstadtt and St. Wolfgang in the Saltzkammergutz region of Austria and I found many salt stores.
So, I bought salt. Hey, when you visit the oldest continuously mined salt mine in the world (7,000 years), you want a momento to remember those special moments when you're inside a mountain surrounded by history.....and salt. Lot of it.
In one of the salt shops, I saw pink salt candleholders, salt Christmas ornaments, flavored salt, course salt (see the little pile above), fine salt and more. Then I picked up a cellophane bag with odd looking rocks. Yep, salt rocks. The shopkeeper told me these rocks came from the mine I had just visited; the pink salt came from the Himalayas. Each has a different mineral content, thus, the difference in appearance. I was hunting for local salt so was thrilled to find these rocks.
And what do you do with salt rocks? The instructions told me to place them in a liter of water for an hour. Drinking 1 teaspoon of the liquid every day would cure all sorts of ailments and ills. This certainly piqued my curiosity.
Once I returned home, I did just that. The glass in the photo above shows my "salt solution" and I add a good teaspoon to my morning smoothie. I also decided to add a teaspoon to my WaterPik and use it on my teeth and gums.
I can't say I had any ailments and ills that needed curing, however, I'm glad I'm using this solution on my gums which have occasionally bled. The bleeding increased for about a week once I started using the salt solution in my WaterPik; I figured some deep healing was taking place. Then it stopped and I've gone a month without any bleeding. Nice!!
